Plan On Applying For A Medical Marijuana License in Florida?
After almost 10 years, the Florida Department of Health’s Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU) is projected to open application rounds for individuals who are looking to get their cannabis business licenses. Applications and submittal processes, which were last accepted in 2015, are going to look different in a number of ways, including a significant increase in fees.
These applications will be extremely competitive, requiring experience, operational SOPs, and more. And the craziest part? The application window itself is open for only 5 days.
How Much is a Medical Marijuana License in Florida?
Initial application fees will cost licensees $146,000 – more than double previous application fees.
Emergency Rule 64ER22-9 (the “Order”) comes with some insights into how the application process will roll out. For example, the Order will put a “batching cycle” review style into effect, which will not only allow for review of multiple applications which will be accepted during a five-day application window, but will also enable those whose applications are rejected to be able to apply again during another batching cycle. This process will not only help more people have a chance to get licensed, but it will also better protect the Department of Health (DOH) from legal challenges from losing applicants.
The window opens in April, but if you don’t start NOW, you are setting yourself up for failure.
