New York Cannabis Application Program Updates FOR July 2023
There are few application program updates for July 2023. However, the few updates released are very important. The New York Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) announced that the first dispensaries to open in the Bronx and Long Island began operations on July 6th and July 8th. Additionally, two dispensaries opened in the Capital Region and Southern Tier, bringing the total to 19 legally operating Adult-Use dispensaries in the State of New York.
These dispensaries are “CAURD” applicants, meaning that they were awarded licenses as part of a smaller, shortened application process for social equity applicants.
General applicants are anxiously awaiting the OCM’s finalization of regulations for its adult-use program. Thankfully, the OCM provided some insights into when that will happen.
According to the Office, public comment on the adult-use regulations ends on July 31, 2023, for the following regulatory sections:
- Definitions
- Municipality Rule-making
- Application and Licensure
- Social and Economic Equity Rules
- License Specific Authorizations (Requirements and Prohibitions)
- General Business Requirements and Prohibitions
- General Operating Requirements and Prohibitions
- Severability and Reference Materials
So, what does this mean for you? It means that the adult-use regulations will be finalized very soon. In just over one week from the date of this blog’s publication, public comment will close. From there, the regulations will be finalized and the application round will open.
