New York Recalls 55 CannabisProduct Lots After Testing Lab Reports Unreliable Results

March 13, 2026

New York cannabis regulators have issued a precautionary recall affecting dozens of adult-use cannabis products after discovering that a state-licensed testing laboratory reported unreliable results for certain safety tests.

The recall, announced by the New York State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM), impacts 55 product lots spanning a variety of product categories, including flower, edibles, pre-rolls, and beverages. State officials say the action was taken after an inspection and records audit identified reporting failures from a permitted laboratory responsible for testing the products.

Audit Reveals Incorrect Test Results

According to regulators, the recall stems from findings related to Keystone State Testing New York, a cannabis testing laboratory whose results were determined to be unreliable following inspections conducted between December 2025 and January 2026.

OCM officials said the audit revealed that 54 product lots were incorrectly reported as passing tests for Aspergillus, a potentially harmful mold that can cause illness in some consumers. An additional product lot was found to have incorrect testing results related to the heavy metal cadmium, which also failed to meet state safety standards.

Because of these inaccuracies, regulators determined that some products may be considered adulterated, while testing results for other items remain uncertain. Both situations raise potential concerns about consumer safety, prompting the state to take precautionary action.

“When test results are inaccurate or unclear, product safety – and in turn the safety of New York State consumers – cannot be guaranteed,” said Stephen Geskey, executive deputy director of licensing, compliance and laboratories for OCM.

New York Recall Spans Multiple Brands

The recall affects products from nearly two dozen companies operating in New York’s adult-use cannabis market. Brands identified in connection with the affected lots include MFNY, Nanticoke Hemp, and Veterans Holdings.

Despite the recall, regulators emphasized that no adverse health effects have been reported in connection with the products to date. The recall was issued as a preventive measure intended to protect consumers and maintain confidence in the regulated cannabis supply chain.

“Product recalls are a core public health safeguard,” said Dr. June Chin, chief medical officer at OCM. “Prompt, transparent action protects consumers and reinforces confidence in New York’s regulated cannabis market.”

Consumers who purchased affected products are encouraged to return any unused items to the retail dispensary where they were originally purchased.

Continued Scrutiny of Cannabis Testing Labs

The recall comes amid increased scrutiny of cannabis testing laboratories in New York. Accurate laboratory testing is a key component of the state’s regulatory framework, as certificates of analysis provide consumers and regulators with critical information about potency, contaminants, and product safety.

This latest action also follows earlier enforcement activity involving another testing laboratory, Lexachrom Labs, which shut down in 2025 after state auditors alleged the lab falsified results—a practice sometimes referred to in the industry as “dry-labbing.”

The recent recall is also the first product recall of 2026 issued under the leadership of John Kagia, the acting executive director of OCM who was appointed by Kathy Hochul earlier this year.

What This Means for Cannabis Operators

For cannabis operators, the recall highlights the critical importance of laboratory integrity and compliance across the supply chain. Even when issues originate with a third-party testing provider, the resulting recalls can affect multiple brands, products, and retailers.

As regulators continue to scrutinize testing practices, operators should ensure they are working with reputable laboratories, carefully reviewing certificates of analysis, and maintaining strong internal compliance procedures. Proactive compliance can help businesses avoid costly recalls and protect both consumer trust and brand reputation in an increasingly regulated market.Canna Business Services helps cannabis businesses navigate complex regulations with expert compliance consulting, licensing guidance, and operational support.
