Alabama has opened their medical program soon for only a short window of time! You have until September 16th, 2022 to request the info you need to apply for a license. Read more below to find out the need-to-knows to be one of the first to get into the cannabis space in Alabama.
Available License Types
There are 12 cultivation licenses available, and 4 processor licenses. Applicants can only apply for one license type, however, there are 5 integrated licenses available for facilities to manage cultivation, processing, transport, and dispensary sales. Dispensary licenses are capped at 4, and each license holder may open up to 3 dispensary locations. The dispensary license fee is $40,000.
Transportation and testing license categories are typically less costly to applicants, and that’s also the case in Alabama. Transport and testing licenses are $30,000 and there are no license limits for these categories.
The Application Process
Alabama’s program is a little bit different from most states in that you need to request application materials and you will receive them via mail. The window of time to request the application materials is September 1st through October 22nd, 2022, depending on the license type. The application will then be mailed to requesters on October 24th, 2022 and completed applications are due for submission by December 30th, 2022. Notifications of license awards will take place on June 26th, 2023. Awardees will have until June 26th, 2023 to pay their license fees and will be permitted on July 10th, 2023.
What To Do To Apply
Your first step is to decide on a license type and request the appropriate application materials. Checking the Locality Resolutions and Ordinances is also a critical step to ensure the feasibility of your cannabis business’ location. The $2,500 application fee is non-refundable, so getting your application correct the first time is a must!
