Maryland Cannabis business Licensing Information
On July 1, 2023, cannabis for personal adult use became legal in Maryland, and recreational sales began at existing medical marijuana dispensaries that had converted to adult use. The Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA), which is responsible for all licensing, registration, inspection and testing for the state’s cannabis program, conducted a license lottery for social equity applicants on March 14, 2024. A total of 174 applicants were selected across the micro and standard grower, processor, and dispensary categories, and conditional licenses will be awarded once the MCA has vetted all selected applicants, including reviewing any necessary additional documentation. A second round of licensing is not permitted prior to May 2024, and will be announced 60 calendar days prior to the beginning of the 30 calendar day application period. This announcement will also include the number of license awards available for the next round.
