Application Process

There are several steps involved in the Rhode Island cannabis application process. The first application is for preliminary approval. Once preliminary approval is granted, you’ll be provided with the final application, which will be required to be completed before a license can be issued.

Licensing Requirements

The Rhode Island General Laws require that all businesses licensed as analytical laboratories for sampling and testing medical marijuana meet local zoning law; zoned for business as a Medical Marijuana Testing Laboratory.

Upcoming Legislation

In January of 2020, Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo introduced her annual budget bill. Similar to the past year, the package includes legislation detailing a plan to legalize and regulate marijuana for adults 21 and older.

Current Dispensaries

According to WPRI.com, as of July 2020, Rhode Island hasn’t licensed any new medical marijuana dispensaries since the first three opened in 2013 and 2014. Despite the rapid growth of the cannabis industry, those three centers in Providence, Warwick, and Portsmouth are still the only ones in the state.

Your Best Chance at Application Approval

Applicants often find themselves facing denials despite years of experience in dispensaries, cultivation, and growth – all due to a lack of nuanced regulatory compliance expertise. Putting their dreams on the line, they risk losing everything and damaging their reputation in the process.
